Trauma-Sensitive Yoga

Trauma-Sensitive Yoga provides a safe place where people can begin to connect with their bodies and breathe in relationship to the trauma. Trauma Center Trauma-Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY) is an effective adjunctive, and complementary treatment for those suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), complex or developmental trauma. This technique was developed by David Emerson and Bessel van der Kolk at the Justice of Resource Institute (JRI) in Boston, MA.

Sensitive Techniques

So, in this type of yoga, we invite you to tune into what’s happening in your body as you go through the practice. You might notice sensations, and or feelings.  And you get to decide what feels right for you. You’re in charge of how you move and what you do based on how you’re feeling. It’s all about exploring and figuring out what works best for you, without any physical assists from us

Body-centered Exploration

Trauma-Sensitive Yoga is all about giving you choices and tuning into your body to help with healing. It’s like gently guiding you to reconnect with the here and now, and with yourself. During our sessions, we use inviting language that encourages curiosity. You’ll start noticing how making positive choices and taking action can really make a difference over time.

If you’re thinking about joining our online sessions for the first time, no worries! You can reach out to us at support@traumasensitiveyoganederland.com. We’ll set up a chat, either over the phone or on Zoom, to chat about Trauma-Sensitive Yoga and what to expect from our online sessions. This chat is also a chance for you to ask any questions you might have and for us to get to know each other a bit.

And, if you’re not sure if these sessions are right for you at this point in your journey, no problem. We’re here to connect with you about that too and help you figure out your next steps. Just reach out whenever you’re ready!”
